The Town of Smyrna is preparing to participate in our 3rd annual PrepareAthon! which will take place on Friday, March 31st at 9:00am. America’s PrepareAthon! is a grassroots campaign for action to better prepare people for emergencies that could strike their communities. The PrepareAthon! works to build a more resilient community by increasing the number of people who:
Understand which disasters could happen in their community
Know what to do to be safe and mitigate damage
Take action to increase their preparedness
Participate in community resilience planning
The Town of Smyrna’s 2017 PrepareAthon! theme is Tornado Safety. We chose this theme due to the high tornadic activity in our area. We are inviting Smyrna businesses, schools, and citizens to participate in the PrepareAthon! by conducting a tornado drill on March 31st at 9:00am. This is a wonderful opportunity to instruct your employees on the proper procedures during a tornado and the safest spot in your business to take cover during a storm.
We would also like to invite you to attend the Family Safety & Preparedness Expo which will be held on Saturday, April 1st from 9:00am until 3:00pm at the Smyrna Event Center (100 Sam Ridley Parkway). There will be vendor booths, demonstrations and fun activities for the entire family, all focusing on preparedness for emergencies. We would love to have you, your employees and your families attend. If your business is interested in vending at this event, please contact Assistant Chief James Lawrence at (615) 459-9735, Extension 7520.
We hope you will participate in the PrepareAthon! and the Family Safety & Preparedness Expo! For more information, please visit our webpage or send us an e-mail.
